Lake…

………………………………Rotoiti

The main route between Nelson and Picton is closed until the 18th of December while major repair work is undertaken as a consequence of excessive rain during August.

At present all traffic heading to the Cook Strait ferry, Picton and Blenheim must travel via St Arnaud and the Wairau Valley. A longer route, but pretty too, and one we sometimes use by choice.

Today as we made our way to our overnight stop in Picton we stopped for a picnic lunch on the shore of Lake Rotoiti. It was wet and grey with these very low wispy clouds moving through the scene. Below the jetty there are always huge native eels which are a popular visitor attraction.

InterIslander ferry sent a message late this afternoon saying that because of staff sickness not all outlets will be available on our 7.30am sailing. After our Sunday sailing being cancelled due to staff shortage we will just be happy if this ferry actually makes the crossing between the North and South Island!

Thank you for your response to yesterday’s seedhead. The wind eventually ‘dismantled’ it completely.
