Edinburgh Meat Market

It was more or less a turn around the block just to blow the cobwebs away.

The Edinburgh Meat Market opened in 1884 on the corner of Fountainbridge and Semple Street. The slaughterhouse was just across the road sited on today's Tollcross Primary School.

The slaughterhouse moved out to Chesser in 1909 followed by the meat market in 1921.

The meat market's last incarnation was as Fat Sam's pizzeria in the 1980s!  The building was demolished in 2007 but the entrance arches with carved bull heads were saved and now stand on this site a little to the west of the original spot.
