Lyceum Theatre - Life is a Dream

We made our return to theatre after a 20 month Covid absence!  Today's play "Life is a Dream" should have ran in May 2020.  And what a great return.  The original 1636 play by Pedro Calderon has been translated by Jo Clifford.  This production by Wils Wilson has transformed the Lyceum so that the stage comes right out into the theatre and the audience is all around the stage.  It takes you closer to the action, reduces the boundaries, heightens the drama.  Music is used to great affect emphasising the melancholy.  The play asks deep questions about what is real, dreams and reality.

It was different to a normal theatre visit - no milling around, obligatory face mask, two hours with no break.......and no interval meant no ice cream!
