Eden Phillpotts

I organised todays lecture at the Museum so I was there early to meet the speaker - Bill Murray, Chair of the Dartmoor Society. He is also a singer, musician, and storyteller. His subject was Eden Phillpotts ( 1862-1960), a prolific Devon author of over 250 books. He wrote from 10.00am to 1.00pm and then gardened, his favourite occupation. There were two rules for gardeners.
1. You must love and gloat over new nursery mens catalogues.
2. You must despise butterflies (cabbage whites )
Inscribed in one of his books
‘Bright is the ring of words
When the right man rings them’

He lived in Torquay for several years and was a neighbour of Agatha Christie.
