Diary blip. Having bought virtually no plants all through the year I have been taking much advantage of this end-of-season time, when all the big mail-order catalogues are virtually giving away what plants they have left (but with hefty p&p). This week five "lucky dip" bargain bare-root roses were delivered, so these were one of the jobs for Refna and I to deal with on this morning.

Two went temporarily into these plastic  pots with the others going into a whisky barrel tub. Some tulips were also planted, and three bin bags were filled to make leaf mould. My one medlar fruit, its first in two years, were consumed with goats cheese and crackers at our tea break.

Luckily, the Met Office forecast was no more accurate for Thursday than it had been the day before and we had a very successful morning, although it did begin to rain when she was about to cycle home.

I noticed that recent winds had caused my car port's pillars to veer significantly and lean at various strange angles. A lot of planks were stored in its rafters and I feared for the safety of Archie, parked underneath, should it suffer further disurbance.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Dottie Cambridge - He's About A Mover (1968)
Dorothy Moore is probably best known for Misty Blue, which she recorded in 1975, but began her solo recording career in 1967 with MGM, under the name Dottie Cambridge, and the following year revived the Sir Douglas Quintet's best known success, She's About A Mover, produced by Huey P Meaux who also produced the Sir Douglas (Doug Sahm) original. Her father was a member of the  Five Blind Boys of Mississippi. I came across this on Iggy Pop's Confidential show.
