Geriatric Clinic

Mums GP referred her to the Geriatric Clinic back in august and it was the appointment today. It’s a good set up. Four elderly and their family member have chairs and table set in a circle. They each alternate between a pharmacist (they have to bring their medication/list), a physio, a doctor and a nurse. The appointment lasts three hours and at the end each sees one of the group and a report is generated. At the end Mum and I went in to Joan, the pharmacist who is a friend of mine, to get her report. She was asked if she could manage to be taken down to the X Ray to get her chest examined as she gets short of breath. A valve was seen in 2019 to be a bit dodgy so they are seeing how it is now. They wouldn’t operate on this at mums age as the risk would be greater than the effects so we will await the result. All the professionals at the clinic were first class and we got a lot out of it. I think it’s a great idea. Mum was taking over the counter aspirin every day which is for pain instead of getting the prescribed lower dose which is for whatever it is so that was picked up, amongst other stuff. She’s lost some weight since August so I’ve to weigh her once a week to keep an eye on things.

After all that and the delay due to getting the x Ray I was hangry! We went to the Glover Arms for lunch but I didn’t really enjoy it. Came back to the house for a cuppa then Took mum home for 5. Long day for her.
