Day 8 - Kaikoura / Christchurch

It was a very nice morning in Kaikoura. We packed our bags, left them at the motel then went into town for a coffee and a wander before meeting our guide for a walk and talk about Kaikoura.  It was quite low key, but we learned a few things that we didn’t know.  Afterwards we had lunch at the King Tide Eatery, then went for another wander and a cup of coffee.  Then it was time to walk back up the hill to our motel to collect our luggage and trundle back down again.  As luck would have it, the bus arrived from Picton, and the driver was kind enough to check in our bags before he locked up the bus and went for his break.  While he did that we had an ice cream - well it is what you do at the seaside.

It was a comfortable trip back to Christchurch and we were slightly early, which was a bonus.  We bought a couple of bananas and oranges for our supper, then walked to our motel.  We just made it before the rain started.

The photo on the left is a pathway through a small park in Kaikoura and the arches are make from whale bones.  The photo on the right is the façade on the Kaikoura Council Building.  It represents the basket/pot used to catch crayfish.  Apparently it is a bit controversial amongst the locals and keeps light out of the building
