Day 9 - Back to Auckland

Our trip ended as it began, with rain in Christchurch and a very early breakfast at the Unknown Chapter Café.  Back at the motel we just had time to clean our teeth, pack our toilet bags and say goodbye to our lovely friends from Napier.  Then we walked to the Bus Interchange and caught the bus to the airport.

We checked in our bags, printed our baggage tags, dropped our bags and headed for the gate.  We didn’t have long to wait for boarding.  It was a completely full flight so they were keen to get everyone on.  We left on time at 10am and touched down in Auckland just before 11:20am.  It was raining!  We didn’t have long to wait for our bags to appear and then it was a very short wait for the bus to Puhinui Station, another short wait for our train to Glen Ines and there was the Tamaki Link waiting for us.  We were soon home, bags unpacked, washing on and everything put away.

We donned our rain jackets again and set off for LaLa Café in Parnell where we enjoyed a coffee before picking up the weekend’s open home signs.

I got a message from our Napier friends early this evening.  They’d just tested positive for Covid, so we thought we’d better test too.  Mr MacD had a visible line, I had a very, very faint one.  Darn, we thought we’d avoided it.

The photo shows a robot at Christchurch airport.  Despite the notice saying “don’t touch me” Mr MacD did and it turned its head and looked very surprised, which gave us a giggle.
