An explosion of light

Low tide was mid morning today. I made my way down the 70+ steps and out onto the exposed mudflats. The kuaka were out in numbers as far north as I could see. Last year was the largest number of Kuaka that I had seen at Snells Beach. I suspect that this year there may be still more. My extra for today is of a small group of Kuaka which shortly afterwards headed north to where more were foraging

I chose to not 'chase' them, and turned back towards the shore. A white-faced heron had just alighted near me, and as I walked by I saw the light of the sun being reflected down onto the mudflats.
