No waste

Reviewing the shots I took on a damp scramble around a steep and shady wood nearby I noticed how this layer-cake of growth and decay illustrates how there's no such thing as waste in nature, everything is recycled.

A tree fell down and its trunk has become enmeshed by the licorice-like strands of  Bootlace  Fungus, aka Honey Mushroom, mycelium (which may have brought about its destruction in the first place.)
A splurge of Purple Jellydisc fungus is next up and above that a fringe of moss has colonised the bark layer.
This year's dead leaves have landed on top and are already on their way towards decomposition.
In due course everything will consume/be consumed and the dead matter will replenish the live. The cycle will repeat elsewhere.

Compare this with our human debris which will continue to infest the planet ad infinitum.
