Vigelandsparken

There was a chill in the air today (-3°C) as Mrs CBL and I set out to visit Vigelandsparken.  It is a sculpture park which celebrates humanity in all its forms, as seen through the eyes of Norway’s much loved sculptor George Vigeland (1869-1943).

There are 212 sculptures dotted around the park.  The focal point is a soaring obelisk which is surrounded by groups of figures.  Most of the sculptures are full size pieces and have been created in either  bronze, granite or cast iron.  All of the figures are naked so if that offends you or are of a delicate disposition I suggest you ignore the extras!

We had a late lunch at Mathallen Oslo’s most modern and biggest food hall.  There are several food halls around the city and all
of them are very popular.

We wandered back through Grünnerløkka, the area of the town we visited today, taking in Damstredet, a narrow street of wooden houses dating back to the late 1700s.

When I was  in Vigelandsparken I saw two young boys who were celebrating England’s success even before the game had kicked off!  You can see in the extras, they were very confident and exuberant.  Hopefully they will still be celebrating come full-time.  Looking very likely … so far!!

PS  Well played England … a very well deserved win.

 Better viewed large!
