Here lies Col. Walter Edgecomb...

I spotted this in a small cemetery not far from me and I really liked the shadow of the flag in front of Col. Edgecomb's grave.  He was born in 1788, obviously too young for the War of Independence.  He died in 1862, too old to have fought in the Civil war.  He was an "inbetweener".   I tried to find out about him online but there was nearly no digital footprint.  But there he rests.  Every year, for 160 years, he is given a new flag in gratitude for his service; he is long gone but not forgotten.
