Amazing Plovdiv

We are in Bulgaria - a fascinating country. We spent our first night in Plovdiv - an amazing city dating back 4000 bc making it one of the oldest cities in Europe.

Fascinating ancient Roman ruins, old cobblestone streets, amazing old churches, fabulous architecture, bright and colourful - it was interesting to walk around the old town for 3 hours.

We also came across a market selling all sorts of things and picked up a couple of trinkets to take home.

This is the old Roman Theatre which we came across by accident on the way back to our hostel to pick up our luggage. We walked up some steps, opened a gate and walked through. Took heaps of photos, then walked climbed up to the top and stepped over a cordon, to find that a). it was closed and b). entry was only with tickets. Oh well - someone had left the bottom gate open!

We then drove to the Rila Monastery and wandered around there for an hour or so, then drove to Sofia. Sofia is the capital and the biggest city, and has lots of big interesting and ancient buildings as well.

We are off to Macedonia today. The Mistress actually blipped this last night but it didn't take so had to do it again this morning. She said the antibiotics are kicking in and the 'bronchitis' is getting better.

She pressed my silver button 600 times today and filled a 16gb flash drive. I feel very abused but will forgive her because the day has been so interesting.
