Sweden

Many thanks to esiuol for sending us this shot to represent in Sweden our blipper-sourced album of places mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and now available as a podcast series).

esiuol explains that the building is Malmo Castle. This now houses the Museum of Natural History and Malmo Art Museum.

Towards the end of World War II, the castle became a refugee camp for women and men who were rescued by the Red Cross from the concentration camps in Hitler's Germany. They came to Sweden on the White Buses (Vita Bussen), one of which is on show next to the castle wall. Find out more about the White Buses on Wikipedia.

Lorna is rather critical of Sweden in the two war diary entries in which she mentions the country: see the blips in the LornaL journal for 13th March 1940 and 15th March 1940. These both appear in Episode 4 of our podcast series.

If you have any photographs not previously blipped that we could add to this journal's pipeline (which is diminishing day by day at the moment), please do send it(them) to h.hall@napier.ac.uk so that we can will feature it(them) alongside the others that we have been blipping here since 13th July 2022

We realise that it is going to be difficult to source shots of some of the locations listed* We will therefore also be happy to receive photographs from blippers to represent these 'tricky' places (see for example our blip of 4th December). Thank you!
