Street Scene - Downtown Crossing

Good news - construction is due to restart on the site of the former Filene's department store at Downtown Crossing (in the background here). There's still a giant hole in the ground, but the sheeting covering the missing wall of the gutted building has been removed, a crane has appeared, and fences have been erected around the sidewalk.

Construction at the site has been stalled since 2008, and has been a major blight on Washington Street. The plans currently include restoration of the former Filene's which will house offices and shops and the building of a 50 story glass sky scraper.
