TALL CHIMNEY

I popped down to Swalwell on the bus this afternoon to do a bit of shopping in the Lidl supermarket.

I took a shot of the tall chimney which stands in their car park.

Bit of history:~~

This site was originally the location of The Crowley Ironworks founded in 1707. When the ironworks closed down The Northumberland Paper Mill took over part of the site from 1887 to 1909 and their 106 feet tall chimney still stands as a record of their presence. General Concrete Products occupied Crowley's site after the war -later Bespoke Concrete Products - and then the site was cleared and the Lidl supermarket built in 2005.

The weather started off as rainy, windy and cold. Sun came out in the late afternoon but there is still a cold wind. Not pleasant enough to stay outdoors for long.
