The Small Things

There was a lot of beauty on the way to and from church and the Adega, but wanted one of us eating together, to go with Gideon Heugh's words in Darkling:

Fellowship, art, and food won't heal all our wounds or make everything okay. But they can keep us going...

The things that heal us are not complicated or expensive. But they are increasingly marginalised.

In our culture, sleep is seen as a luxury, rather than a necessity; food is made to be convenient, rather than nourishing; connection has been outsourced to screens; and busyness and distraction have all but eliminated the ability to dwell in our depths.

It doesn't have to be that way. If a culture is causing us harm, then we should create our own...

May fellowship and food always find you. May you know that the small things in life are really the big things. May you find healing in simple pleasures. May good sleep, real food, connection, pleasure, and reflection find you. And may there be restoration for your body, mind, and soul.

Praying this especially for MumOf4Wildlings, with her youngest ill in hospital, Max_Blazer in Ukraine, and for Julia and Tom waiting hours now to see a doctor for Eden in A&E...

Gratefuls:
- a good night's sleep, what a difference that makes
- Mike and I deciding to have lunch in the Adega, rather than just a tintinho; this is bacalhau (creamy salted cod) with salad, home-cured fresh olives, and bread; simple and wholesome, as with most food here
- going off to a Christmas concert in church in a bit, at 21:30
