Last Ones Standing....

Sam, Carl and Kieran, proud members of the Swaby run Urban Kickboxing Gym, are tonight victorious in the invitational Last Man Standing event in Cheddar, Somerset....

The TERROR SQUAD fighters have now won the belt and trophy titles for the last three years running.
Last year my Jess took the 'Last Girl Standing' title and this year it was Sam's turn to step onto the mat and lay his talent on the line in front of a paying audience.

For head coach Carl, the results were never in doubt....he has such faith, such belief in his team of fighters. He inspires them, young and old, to challenge themselves, to push their boundaries.

It was Sam's first ever experience fighting in such an event and although he made no fuss in the days and weeks buildup, my wife Sarah and I knew how much courage it took him to step out into the spotlight. Normally, when participating in tournaments around the UK and Europe, he is fighting amidst a vast number of other competitors, lost in the buzz and blur of dozens of fights taking place at the same time.

Tonight however has been about two boys on the mat together, eye to eye, glove to glove, hearts pounding, calculating how to score that first point and impose themself on the other. Nerves channelled into concentration, strategy, defence and counter....Sam knows nearly every trick in the book, Carl and Kyle teach them to an exceptional level....but putting all that he has learnt into practice, in front of a noisy crowd....thats taking things to the next level....

Even though, like Carl and Kieran, Sam was victorious tonight, (I think it was the Tornado Kick head-shot that did the trick); there is no such thing as losing when you are part of the Terror Squad....
