Moscow

Throughout our challenge to create an online photograph album of places mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and now available as a podcast series), we have appealed to blippers to check their photo archives for suitable material for this journal. Amongst those who have responded so far, we are particularly grateful to iaint for his ethusiasm for the project. This shot of Moscow is his fifth contribution to this journal after Gdansk/Danzig, Helsinki, Bohemia, and Sheffield.

iaint tells us that he took this photograph of the Bolshoi Theatre in July 1968. He was in Moscow on an educational visit with a group of Scottish Russian learners when a schoolboy. The visit took place shortly before the events in Prague that summer (covered in this Wikipedia entry). He remembers hearing a barrage of anti-Czech rants on the radio when in the city. iaint and his fellow pupils had no idea what was really going on until they emerged from behind the Iron Curtain.

Lorna mentions Moscow twice in her war diary: first when discussing the 'liquidation' of Poland on September 29th 1939, and again on November 30th 1939 with reference to a 'new morality' shared with Berlin. Listen to Lorna's great-great niece actress Bethany Ray play Lorna reading these diary entries in Episode 2, and Episode 3 of our podcast series.

We're still short of shots of several places to complete this challenge. Please could you help? The places sought are listed below. We'd especially like to hear from the blippers who have told us that they have suitable pictures, but who have not yet had a chance to send them to us.

Please send your contribution(s) (not previously blipped) to h.hall@napier.ac.uk and we will feature it(them) alongside the others that we have been blipping here since 13th July 2022

**The photos that you send don't need to have been taken by you (so long as you are not breaking the copyright of someone else of course). Perhaps you have a sibling, son, daughter or other relation who lives in, or has visited, one of the places in our list and could be persuaded to join our wee challenge?**

We also realise that it is going to be difficult to source shots of some of the locations listed. We will therefore also be happy to receive photographs from blippers to represent these 'tricky' places (see for example our blip of 4th December). Thank you!
