A day with Frieda

Marianna needed some time to catch up with work, to tidy some things up at the end of term. Jack is racing to meet a funding bid deadline for the refugee charity he's now working for. So Frieda came to us for the day - a treat all round, in fact, as these days we mainly see her for after pre-school pick-ups. It was good to have a whole day just to potter about together.
She's still got a bit of a cold, although it's wearing off. In the morning she opted to spend a long time playing in the bath. I think the slightly steamy atmosphere was probably easing her blocked up nose a bit (see tell-tale stream of snot in the photo - lovely!).  This was one of those happy periods where, with a little background company from me, she was happy to wander off into a make-believe world populated by sea creatures and the bathroom fleet of RNLI rescue boats. She sang to herself, she made up little story fragments - it was a delight.
Sometimes the grandparent experience is exhausting. And then sometimes it's just pure joy.
