Saturday: Roadside Cafe

K and I took a drive out to Spanish Lookout, about 40 miles south-west of Belmopan.  It’s one of a few Mennonite centres and has a strong agricultural centre.  It has its own governance system and people pay an additional tax to live there.  It was quite striking how much better the roads  (no potholes) and fences (less broken) were there.  The demographic is also very different, with lots of blond North American looking people.  It was fascinating.

Unfortunately a work issue came up while I was out.  It took a few phonecalls but ended up in the right place.

Geoff and Sam came over for an excellent rib roast, together with Sam’s mum, Nicky, who also lives here.

This picture was not taken in Spanish Lookout but on the road back which is peppered with cafes and restaurants like this.
