Rock and kest-roll

A nice day of knocking around Iringa, trying to dodge the ever-present threat of heavy showers, which mostly resulted in a large dumping.

I started off at the Iringa Boma, named after the Swahili word for enclosure but used by the German colonial overlords to describe the seat of their government in various towns and cities. The Iringa Boma was used by the independent Tanzanian regional government as their offices before being restored and converted into a museum, detailing aspects of Iringa’s history. An enjoyable mooch around the information boards.

In the afternoon when it appeared somewhat clear I went with Claire up Gangilonga Rock, a very large boulder perched on the hillside, with expansive views of Iringa town. A kestrel was surveying close by and we had unusually great sight of its patterns as it swooped and glided below us, trying to disturb critters from ledges on the rock.

True to form for Iringa, spotting rain soon turned to driving torrents, so we legged it off the rock and back to Claire’s car.
