The mighty Forth Railway Bridge

The clouds parted and rain stopped overnight leaving a cold, clear frosty morning.

It took a while until we eventually got out for a 6 mile walk along the south side of the Firth of Forth from Cramond to South Queensferry.

Taking two cars, one was left at South Queensferry while we all travelled to Cramond Brig Toll to park for the start of the walk back.

By this time the sun was low in the sky with many parts of the shore already in shade it was cold enough for the beach sand to be frozen. Great views of Fife bathed in sunshine.

Approaching South Queensferry the magnificent Forth Railway Bridge dominated the view for the last couple of miles. It’s looked a fine spectacle bathed in the golden light of the setting sun with scattered reflections in the waters of the Firth.

We ended the walk at a welcoming cafe below the old road bridge. We enjoyed the bagel but we’re disappointed by the number of chips that came with it, I had 11. Given that they’d run out of the coleslaw which was part of the meal, the service of chips was parsimonious.

We’re watching “My Old School” this evening. The story of Brandon Lee who went back to school in his thirties, disguising his identity. It was the same school as Barbara and Susan attended.
