Edinburgh New Year Fireworks

Despite the inclement weather we saw in the new year outside the Caledonian Hotel with crowds of others watching the fireworks which thankfully seemed to be unaffected by bitter (well to us southern softies anyway) cold winds and incessant rain.

Earlier we’d renewed contact with the walking group that Barbara and David are part of when 14 of us went for a Chinese dinner in evening. The last time we saw them was Hogmanay 2019. A very enjoyable time.

They all went their separate ways afterwards while we walked up to the Cally Hotel to wait in warmth and luxury, with a drink, until it was time to step outside to see in the new year.

Although not as late as previous years it was still 2.30am when we switched the light out and gone 9.30am when we woke up. It was then full steam ahead for the family New Year’s Day lunch of steak pies, swede and mashed potatoes with plenty of grownups and children. I was beaten at chess by a 7 year old. In my defence that was my first game in 50 years!

The room is just about straight, washing up done or in the dishwasher and stuff put away or returned to its rightful place.

I hope you had a similarly happy and enjoyable New Year’s Day.
