Oak Gall

I was handed this yesterday, an oak gall, steadfast on its host, an Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur)
What is inside, i know not. Commonly however,, the oak gall wasp. 
Through the middle ages however, Oak galls were used to make Ink. Crushed oak galls, water and Iron sulphate (that well known soil conditioner).
