Wednesday: Laguna Aguacate

Today’s pick up was even earlier - 06.30, but at least we were in San Ignacio and didn’t have to make our way there.  P&J, particularly P, are keen birders so we’d booked a birdwatching excursion which took us to the marshlands around Spanish Lookout.  K and I are no experts but we thoroughly enjoyed it - if only I could remember the names of all the birds to share with you.

The early morning scenery was beautiful- this is a shot of Laguna Aguacate.  Aguacate means avocado in Spanish, the lake is shaped like an avocado, hence the name.  My camera isn’t really up to good bird photography so I didn’t even try.

One of our stops was by an inlet where we were also joined by 8 crocodiles (see extra).  The other extra is an insight into how different the scenery is here - here being Spanish Lookout and the Mennonite community.

We finished our excursion in a Mennonite diner and are now back in Belmopan.  We were back early enough to enjoy a good period of time in the pool.
