Nature Diary... A posy of winter garden flowers
The morning was sunny and mild so I had a little stroll round the garden and found some plants which seem to have been flourishing despite the weather. I arranged them in a miniature vase which is only 7cm tall and I was just in time to take one photo of them before the sun was clouded over, and once again we were in a grey, wet, cold world.
My little winter collection consists of:
Osteospermum flowers: one a beautiful deep purple and one a noble white, both with many more sturdy looking little buds all over the plants,
A couple of Antirrhinum flowers, one white and one a pale yellow,
Some tiny purple Rosemary flowers,
Some yellow and green leaves from my Eponymous plant,
And some red tinted leaves from my Heavenly Bamboo plant.
I find it lovely to admire the tiny hand-painted vase which I've owned for many, many years, now totally filled with an unexpected mini collection of surviving plants midwinter and, as I type these words in a dark room lit sparingly by one light bulb and by my computer screen, I laugh at the sight of the only photo I plan to take today as it sits there in full sunlight, saying more than any human being could say, and helping to rid my mind of the shed-load of doom and gloom hoisted daily upon us from almost every direction.
The flowers remind me of a teaching remembered from my childhood and, I feel, so very relevant to the present day. It begins:
"Consider the lilies of the field..."
and speaks of how, like my humble little bouquet seems to speak to me today, the words of the rest of that little bit of teaching could be useful to consider in our present difficult times
Others might also be familiar with the teaching.
Thank you for your ongoing visits, stars and comments during these somewhat difficult days, even though I'm not managing to take or to upload many photos regularly at the moment.
Love to your all xxxxxx
