Gulls

I went for a walk up the hill to the coast watch station at Sheringham this morning. So disappointing to see the poor state of the new path only opened a few months ago, with huge puddles and the surface worn away in places to see the underlying weed control material. I had a nice catch up with my sister P this afternoon. I also had a call from the garage, my car needs to go in again for a firmware update on the system that was replaced a couple of months ago as there are 5 coding errors that have been found on them.

Covid Update
The weekly ONS infection survey of private households up to w/e 28th Dec showed high levels of Covid with an estimated 1 in 20 with the virus in England (up); 1 in 25 in Scotland (up); 1 in 18 in Wales (up); and 1 in 16 in NI (up - only data to 22nd Dec). Covid deaths in Eng, Wales and NI rose to 450 in the week to 23rd Dec (3% of all deaths). A new Covid Omicron variant XBB.1.5 is causing some concern in the US where it is spreading rapidly (it is also in the UK). It has a growth advantage over other sub-variants, but there is no indication so far that it is more harmful. It now makes up 40% of cases in the US (from 4% at the beginning of Dec) and hospital admissions have been rising, so the US has restarted its free testing programme.
