Roll Up! Roll Up! Roll Up!

On This Day In History
1768: First modern circus is staged

Quote Of The Day
"I could spend my whole life photographing circuses. They combine everything I'm interested in - they're ironic, poetic and corny at the same time. There's also something about a circus that's magical, sentimental and almost tragic, like a Fellini film."
(Mary Ellen Mark)

It's Coming Of Age Day in Japan, when many young ladies and men celebrate their entry into adulthood at the age of twenty by wearing their finest clothes to a shrine before going for a meal and a studio photo-shoot. They all looked like the stuff that dreams are made of, unlike these circus performers who are the stuff of many people's nightmares.
