Clementine

Apparently the Clementine is named after Brother Clement Rodier (1839-1904) who was in charge of the gardens of an orphanage in Misserghin, Algeria.  He crossed an orange with a mandarin orange and the fruit was registered in 1902, and commercially grown in California in 1914.  Sweetclems are usually grown in Spain and North Africa and have 10 slices - the one in the photo has nine!
