The Arundel tomb

This is the tomb monument of Richard Fitzalan, Earl of Arundel (d. 1376) and his second wife Eleanor of Lancaster (d. 1372) in Chichester Cathedral. I love it for the unusual hand-joining pose of the couple. It's a romantic blip for a special anniversary for me and Mr hazelh. It is our 40th 'going out together' anniversary today. There's more on the Arundel tomb, and the poem that it inspired Philip Larkin to write, on Wikipedia.

It is thanks to the New Year's Day blips of Gallopinggran and KJD that we visited Chichester Cathedral today. When they wrote about their enjoyment of their guided tour of the building, I asked my in-laws if we could arrange one for our visit.

Our tour guide was just as knowledgeable as the one on duty a couple of weeks ago - with the added bonus that he lives opposite my in-laws and goes to church with my mother-in-law. It really was a great way to spend a very chilly afternoon. Thank you Gallopinggran and KJD for the recommendation!

The trip to the cathedral was sandwiched between two visits to the yacht club. The first was for morning coffee, and the second for supper this evening. Today we also watched the video of Eliza's funeral from last Friday.

We're heading back home (to sensible eating and exercise) tomorrow.

Exercise today: none (again).
