Penguin

Today we drove the 250km from Corinna to Launceston. It was a long drive which we broke in the town of Penguin on the north coast of Tasmania. It's a charming town and has a great bakery cafe where we filled up on coffee and calories.

My main shows the town's Boer War memorial, which also honours two soldiers from Penguin who died in this war. The building behind is the library.

Penguin was settled in 1861 and was named after the fairy penguins in the area. My first extra shows the fibro and concrete Big Penguin, erected to celebrate the centenary of the township.

My second extra shows one of the town's several garbage bins decorated with penguins sculpted in relief. It also shows more penguin art on the wall of the café and beer shop.

You could be forgiven for thinking that the good burghers of Penguin are penguin nuts.

Extras are pretty silly. Hey, it's Saturday.
