Granny's cloak moth

It's six minutes to midnight. We have been watching the tennis match between Australian Alex de Minaur and Russian Andrey Rublev since 7pm. Unfortunately Alex, the last Australian standing in the Australian Open singles did not prevail.

During the match a large brown moth flew in and settled on the venetian blind. I quickly fitted the macro lens to the camera, got M to hold the torch, snapped and only then did I see the moth's magnificent colours. My research led me to believe it's a Granny's Cloak moth, endemic to eastern Australia but also found in New Zealand. After the photo shoot M picked it up and put it back outside. I'd find that impossible.

Have a great start to the week blippers.
