James Watt, Artist

QM2

The Queen Mary 2 is Cunard's flagship and, according to its website, it is the most magnificent ocean liner ever built. It was the first liner to be built after the QE2, some 35 years earlier, and entered service in 2004.

Today she is docked in Greenock, home of shipbuilding and P5 pupils from Joseph's PS in the town, with support from Clydeport, went onboard. The class has been working on a project for the last few months, learning about the great liners which were built nearby on the Clyde.

Today, they visited the bridge and even tried out Captain Kevin Oprey's command seat.

This photo sent online by St Joseph's gives an idea of how large the ship is...
345 metres long, 72 metres high and more than 40 metres wide, with up to 3000 passengers.

Pupils from St Joseph's PS will be coming to a workshop at the Beacon to study James Watt's artwork as part of their overall Clyde learning experience, and on Friday we'll be talking about what they'll be doing on that day's outing.

Painting of the QE2 maybe, learning about painting such massive structures, and perhaps going on to their own paintings of the QM2.

Looking forward to it, St Joseph's PS!
