A-wassailing we will go

Tonight we wassailed our oldest apple tree. This basically involved donning decorated hats, clattering things to wake up the trees, hanging toast by one of the branch’s for the robins (the protectors of the trees), pouring cider over the roots, drinking mulled cider, and reciting a poem from 1871 which ended with a great cheer of ‘Huzza!’

So that should mean the young orchard is fruitful this year…..
