Ice on the rocks

A walk with MrM on Cocklawburn beach, on a cold, grey afternoon. Very still but a tad chillier than the forecast had implied, and there was still ice on these rocks by the dunes. The tide was in, so we had to walk on the dunes for short stretches, and scramble over rocks. By the time reached Cheswick sands the tide had started to go out, and we were able to walk all the way back along the sand, watching the lights in Berwick starting to twinkle as darkness fell.

Before our walk we called in at 'Go Outdoors' to buy some bootlaces. Next door to the shop is an old industrial building, possibly once a garage, and on it MrM noticed half a dozen or so wood carvings (extras). Goodness knows why we've never noticed them before - they must have been there for years. One is clearly labelled Meg Merrilies (A gipsy of the moors, apparently a character in 'Guy Mannering', a novel written by Sir William Scott in 1815. John Keats later wrote a poem about her.) Another is a king, but goodness knows who the others are supposed to be...
