The Squire

It was a great morning at the Torquay Museum Society. Our speakers  were Robin Springett and Ken from the Dartington Morris side and the  subject was An Alternative History of Morris Dancing. It was an interesting and entertaining presentation. What a fantastic history and tradition. Marvellous that it is alive and well and enthusiastically  preserved by Morris sides all over the country and the world. The morning concluded with members participating in a dance called the Shepherd’s Hey!
Joe provided the musical accompaniment on concertina.
Pictured is Robin, standing in front of the many artefacts they brought with them. He is a former Squire of the Morris Ring. This is the highest accolade of Morris dancing, effectively head of men’s Morris dancing in England and throughout the world.
