Downy woodpecker

Saturday
The bird feeders were quite busy this morning, and after watching them through the breakfast room window for a while, I put my coat on, and stood outside for a while trying to take some photographs. However, most of them seemed to object to me being out there, and were keeping their distance. Just the Downy woodpecker was a little braver, or a little more hungry, and chose to come back and feed.
In the evening we were out at a concert by the Vocal Arts Ensemble at Christ Church Cathedral. They were performing Path of Miracles by British composer Joby Talbot. The work was commissioned by the English A capella ensemble Tenebrae and written and first performed in 2005. We had heard the work once before, performed by Tenebrae at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral. The work has its inspiration in the pilgrimage route Camino de Santiago, and it’s four movements are named after the four main posts along the way, Roncesvalles, Burgos Leon and Santiago. It’s a very different piece of music, but if you know it’s background, and follow the words or their translations, it’s very striking and moving. The concert just featured the one work, so there was no intermission, so it wasn’t that long, so afterwards we had a late dinner at one of our favourite downtown restaurants, Nada , which serves Mexican food.
