First

First wild Snowdrops of the year in our nearby National Nature Reserve.

Power saving.

We are one of a million households who have signed up to take part in the national scheme.
It is designed to ensure that if there is no sun and no wind and the temperature is low the electricity demand is reduced so that blackouts are avoided.

Both yesterday and on Monday we got an email from our power company asking us to reduce our power at the peak early evening time. It was for an hour on Monday and ninety minutes yesterday.

It is very easy to do. We light the wood burning stove and turn the heat pump off. For light we have battery lanterns or an led reading lamp and we sit reading our books on our fully charged Kindles.

They tell us that we reduced our electricity use by 94%.
What is surprising is that the National Grid actually pays us a generous amount for doing this. And in addition we are paying less for power.

The fact is that if the nation needs a power reduction we would be public spirited enough to do this without being paid.
And we are conscious of the millions of households who have no alternative heat source and indeed are finding it very difficult to keep warm.

Another case of to those who have shall be given ?
