Anne Frank

As well as having a school library, my wonderful English teacher had a small library in his classroom.  I choose this book from there when I was about 13 and to this day I have never read a book that has had a bigger impact on me.  I could not believe what I was reading - that a young girl who was a similar age to me was going through such a horrific experience.  I had not heard of Anne Frank at the time and I felt devastated when I heard that she did not survive.

Anne and her story has stayed with me all my life.  When I was in my thirties I visited Amsterdam and the house where she and her family hid.  I found it incredibly moving.
