Letter writing in the past

A letter from my gt gt gt aunt Helen to her brother-in-law Samuel my gt gt grandfather in 1834.  Letters in those days were generally written on one piece of paper and folded several times with the address put on one side so if there was a lot of news it was written across what was already written.  This must have been a challenge as it is difficult enough with a bright electric light - they would have had candle light, or maybe they read it when the sun was shining and it was bright outside!  They were Quakers and were always writing letters and recording in diaries.

F came for coffee this morning.  Off to the village pantomime this evening.
