If you can't beat them...

Dipper ( Cinclus cinclus )

Our visit today was to Saughton Park where we did our hour of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch (you can however do the watch on any "patch" be it park field etc).  Even if you don't see a single bird it is important to record this as it helps show scarcity which might otherwise be missed.  If you feel like taking part you can still carry out the watch tomorrow.  Google RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch (other search engines are available).

The Lakes have plenty of Dippers but they aren't as used to people so this was our best opportunity to get shots of the Dippers.  Dippers are sadly declining with greater than 25% falls over the last 2 or 3 decades.

We had lunch at the garden Bistro after a stroll through the Winter Gardens.  An extremely nice Risotto.  When a 6 minute drive to the Water of Leith Visitors Centre turned into 30 minutes we aborted the trip and headed back to Kat's.
