A Day Worth Recording

By Cheeseminer

The Bells! The Bells!

Despite finding a considerable number of fragments of the servant bell system throughout the house we've never had any firm evidence of where the bells were.  I'm now confident we've found it under the 70's ceiling paper.

To my left is a large hole in the wall* (now I've removed the nailed on sheet of metal covering it) with 10 cut-off wires in it.  On this wall there are 8 'shadows' of T-shaped brackets at what would seem to be sensible spacing along what would have been the servant's corridor.

At the right hand end of this section is a partition wall and I'm guessing there are another two ex-bell-bracket spaces beyond there, as the partition wall was clearly added much later. (The other side of that wall is here, but the ceiling paper is covering that wall still.)

The next phase here is to insulate and box in the pipes - doing so in a way to preserve this bit of the house's history.
