Maybe saved the school from the flood

Beginning in 2002 pupils, parents and other locals worked together to restore the stream which ran past the Woodlands Park Primary School. It was clogged with weeds and debris rather than flowing freely. Over a number of years the stream was returned to clear running water, and birds and other animals returned to the stream.

Almost two weeks ago and then again just one week ago Auckland was hit by massive downpours, causing havoc. There was no flooding of the road here, and I assume the school was also spared, as children were still playing near the stream on the days when the rain was absent. And are now back at school.

Although I included a photo of this sign as an extra in October last year, the sign is worthy of featuring for the message it gives; that it is possible to make streams more attractive and less likely to flood.
