Were I still staying at Snells Beach I would have had this year's first photo of the White-faced heron well before this. They do come to Te Wai Orea, but not very often, whereas they are ubiquitous at the beach. This one looks like a juvenile. The white face is less marked than in older birds, and neck and chest feathers appear to be a mix of colours.
