Perth- Crieff- St Fillians - Balquidder

There is something special about having a road trip in February to scenic areas that are usually busy with visitors, but the downside is that there are lots of ‘seasonal’ issues.

Had a look at Scotland the Best and found a small walk and some historical interest in Balquidder. Hadn’t really explored much in that particular area which has the Rob Roy connection.

Wanted to stop in Crieff at Delivino for breakfast but it only does coffees in the morning (seasonal). Thought Comrie could be an alternative but the Cafe there was closed on a Monday. Passed the food shack type place outside Comrie- closed. By this time I was getting Hamgry and the mood had dropped and S then remembered the General Store in St Fillians and we stopped there. Although it looks like just a shop it had a quirky sitting area at the back. The coffee was every bit as good as some coffee shops and the egg roll I had was superb! We even had entertainment by way of three local ladies (I would say early 70s telegraph readers as there was quotes from it) moaning about everything! The place was a wee bit on the cold side but I understand prices of heating a place and it’s better they can still be open and not give all this extra mo eh to the greedy energy companies.

St Fillians looked superb, the Loch was so calm.

On we went through Lochearnhead and on to Balquidder. We stopped at Mhor at Home, a great home and clothes store next to the Mhor Inn. What a fabulous store! And a good chat with the young lady working there.

Parked up at the Village Hall at Balquidder and set off for our walk which took us past the church and old churchyard which had Roy Roy’s grave. What a beautiful spot with stunning views. Headed up the hill to a spot that looks over Loch Voil. Wasn’t too muddy either.

On the drive back we stopped at the Mhor In. To have a late lunch but it closed at 11:30 for this winter season. We decided to go back to Delivino at Crieff for the lunch. It was cosy and quite busy. The food was delicious. Popped into the Crieff Food Company next door for a browse and a small walk and then on home for 4:30.

No need for tea and felt quite tired for some reason.

Added some extra photos of the day .
