Fleet Herons

Today I took a walk around Fleet Pond, the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire.  On my last visit, nearly a year ago, the car park and part of the circular walk were closed; today highlighted the benefits of the upgraded paths and car park.  I observed a lot more life, including greater spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches, red kite and numerous water fowl. However the highlight of my visit was watching herons fly across the pond from a floating island to trees which were obviously a target for their nests.  Another visit later in Spring is called for to check on their progress!
