Non heroic herons

As Logan and I walked this morning, early to avoid the forecast rain, we came across this heron, sitting quietly, minding his own business, in the middle of the river.
I took a few pictures but then got a bit bored with a stationary creature, so I called Logan over and the heron promptly took flight. I do love the transition frame from elegant statue to airborne glider when the bird looks as though it's forgotten how to fly.
