Musty

We have a bookcase containing some quite old books.  Some of them have developed a musty smell.  We cleaned out the bookcase several weeks ago, but there is still a lingering smell.  Apparently, one way to deal with this is to place dishes of bicarbonate of soda in with the books, which should absorb the smell.

This particular shelf isn't too bad, but some of the worst books may have to be sealed individually in a plastic box with the bicarbonate of soda.  The other alternative is to wait for some warm, sunny weather and leave the books in the sun, although that is not recommended for valuable books. (Not a problem, I don't think any of our books has any great value)
