Transformation

I've put the "before" images in extras.  It sounds a bit like a cracked record, but we really do keep finding treasures in our sheds.  This chaise longue is 19th Century - probably around 1870-1880 ish, and was being stored under a shelf in the garden shed.  I know it sounds unlikely but that's where it was, and we have always been aware of it.  But .... the gardeners need the area, and asked that it be removed.

Our biggest problem is space - especially in the two museum buildings, so I said it could go in the back office for the time being.  Anyway ..... Mary spent quite a few hours cleaning it up - and it's really a stunning piece.  Leather and mahogany, with ceramic castor wheels.  Obviously worn in places, but that's part of its story - we don't want to over-restore it.

Eventually it will go into the new Coach House, but in the short term we will have to find space for it, probably in the Servants' Quarters.  There's definitely no room in the main House, which is quite a shame because it would look lovely in there.
